I've noticed recently how many positive thoughts have been posted on the social networks and more importantly how many "likes" they have gotten.

In a previous generation these ideas would have gotten one labeled queer, strange and so on. But on the internet it seems like the positive in humanity is winning out. Through sheer numbers people are overwhelming the bullies, those that continually put people down.

What I have observed.

1. Gay Marriage - The young are realizing that they know gay people, they cannot change and it is wrong to discriminate against them. These enlightened folks are overwhelming those that are not as enlightened.

2. Bullying - Hate does not prevail as well on the internet. Hate and suppression usually only work in small groups. When the situation is exposed to the greater internet those that suppress lose their power. (See Mubarak, Gaddafi, Assad or your regular bully at school.

I see my friends posting very personal messages about their struggles, pain and travails on the social networks. These updates get 100% positive feedback on these networks.

If they had done the same in High School it is not unlikely that the class bully would have put them down and ridiculed. A few would have followed suit and the rest would have stayed quiet. But through the power of sheer numbers the bullies can be overcome on the internet.

Except for the trolls of course. Trolls are very hard to exterminate.
