I just had an epiphany! I'm sitting here at my desk and noticed that there were no paper clips in my little swivel desk organizer. I then realized that I had never put any paper clips in it! I bought it 6 years ago but had never filled the little tray!

In fact, the last time I put paper clips in a swivel desk organizer was when I got my first swivel desk organizer which sat atop my very first desk when I was about 13 or so. I put so many in there that I think I overestimated my need for paperclips as I'm pretty sure I never really exhausted the supply.

I then have a sudden intense flash of my old room and how excited I was to be getting a desk. I placed it against the window and imagined myself doing all sorts of important things on my beautiful wood - half desk. I say half desk because we picked it up at a liquidation sale and the other half was missing so it was quite a bargain. I was able to put my nightstand underneath one end to prop it up so it wouldn't fall over.

The desk kind of served as a transition between childhood and becoming an adult. Less playing outside and more sitting at the desk doing important things.

And how could one do important things if the swivel desk organizer was not full of paper clips, staples, scissors, pencils and pens? It would be impossible!

I have now realized two things.

1. The computer has just about done away with my need for paper clips.

2. I would much rather be playing outside than sitting at my desk
